Minutes – Toronado and Aurora Chapter Meeting
OCA National Meet, Gettysburg. PA – August 3, 2018
The annual Membership Meeting of the Toronado and Aurora Chapter (TAC) commenced at 4:00 PM in Salon D of the Wyndham Hotel, the host hotel for this 2018 OCA National Meet. The meeting was attended by 20+ individuals, with about a third identifying themselves as being TAC members.
Per our usual practice, the meeting started with all attendees introducing themselves, including brief summaries of their Toronado/Aurora involvement. The group represented many years and variations of Toronados and several Auroras including Final 500s – interestingly, on the show field, there were no ‘67 or ‘69 Toros, or 1st generation Auroras. Some unexpected finds on the show field included an unrestored ’68, and a ’92 Trofeo with a heated (copper film) windshield. Personally, it was great to have a former member, Dick Taschenberg (and wife), drop in for the day; back in the day, he had been our club Merchandise Manager (and mechanical/tech guy) until his successful machine shop business took away his free (TAC) time.
For the Business Meeting, minutes of last year’s meeting were read, with no additions or corrections. I reported the current balance in the Treasury as $1701.17 – this represents a gain of almost $200 compared to last year, so it would seem the current dues of $18 per year have stabilized our financial status. Of course, some of the increase is due to 2-year renewals for which there is that added longevity liability.
As to Old Business, I indicated that there has been no progress with the T-shirt project, possibly mostly due to financial constraints. To this point, a couple individuals offered names of reasonable local T-shirt shops that might be helpful in moving this project forward – I will forward this info to Jeff Draugelis who initiated this project a couple years ago. Other old business included the advisory that an election and any change of officers was not at all being considered as there still have been no individuals expressing interest. Also, Dan Gulino was recently activated to access on our website, so hopefully we will soon start to see some updating there.
Jerry Wilson, OCA President, did his normal drop-in to the meeting. He related that next year’s OCA Nationals would be indoors at the Century II Performing Arts and Convention Center in Wichita, KS, June 25 to 30. Reservation information for the Hyatt Regency, the host hotel, and other nearby hotels will be made available tomorrow. Jerry also asked that OCA members be sure to check out the new and improved OCA website, and particularly take time to update their individual information and approve sharing.
There was no New Business, so we proceeded to General Discussion. Larry Sybert had an update to the earlier (2016-17) discussions about a replacement for the ’92 lower motor mount. He found that a ’92 Seville motor mount will work, but you do need to move the 2 bolts to the extra 2 unused holes. He did this using motor mount by MRC, #A2836HY, from RockAuto.
Brian McArthur (OCA’s newly appointed Chief Judge) introduced himself and tells us that he is attempting a very accurate and detailed restoration of a ’68 Toro – he is particularly looking for minutia information such as proper (assembly line) inspection markings, decals and their placement, etc.
The Meeting adjourned at approximately 5:00 PM, followed by some informal discussions, one of which went on for an easy 15-20 minutes. Additionally, after adjournment, there were 5 individuals that came forward to join as new TAC members – after the fact, that would take membership representation at the Meeting to over 50%, a definite improvement over the earlier one-third.
